In a blog post, Netflix said, “On the 16th anniversary of the original video game’s 2006 release, Netflix announced a partnership with The Coalition to adapt the Gears of War universe. Netflix will first adapt the video game saga into a live action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, with the potential for more stories to follow.” With more than 40 million copies sold, Gears of War has redefined the third-person and co-op shooting experience. The series is set in a world that is on the brink of collapse due to the threat of Locust, an alien threat. Disgraced sergeant Marcus Fenix leads a fireteam called Delta Squad, who are humanity’s last stand against the Locust.
Currently, it’s unknown whether the Netflix Gears of War movie is the same as the one that has been in a development limbo for 15 years. Dave Bautista has been rumoured to play Marcus Fenix in that movie, which would be a great choice for the Netflix project as well. Bautista has previously described Marcus Fenix as his dream role. Details regarding the casting, story, and release date of Gears of War live-action movie and animated series will be revealed in the coming months.
