Geekbench 6 benchmark released: What is new, availability and more
Geekbench 6, the latest iteration of Primate Labs‘ cross-platform benchmarking software, is live. It comes three years after the release of Geekbench 5. The new version features upgraded workloads that evaluate CPU and GPU performance, along with an expanded range of application areas. These include augmented reality and machine learning.
GeekBench 6: What’s improved
Geekbench is a popular benchmarking software that is widely used to test smartphones and PCs. The new version features a range of new tests designed to push devices to their limits. These new tests leverage cutting-edge technologies to perform increasingly demanding tasks.
One such test is focused on blurring backgrounds in video conferencing streams. Another test has also been added that evaluates a device’s ability to remove unwanted objects from photos automatically. Geekbench has also introduced a test that assesses a device’s ability to detect and tag objects in photos using machine learning models. There is also a new test that measures a device’s ability to analyse, process, and convert text using scripting languages.
Geekbench has undergone significant changes in the latest version, improving the multi-core benchmark tests. Instead of assigning individual tasks to each core, the updated tests now measure how well the cores work in tandem. Additionally, Geekbench 6 has added support for Vulkan, the next-generation graphics and compute API that is gaining popularity for its cross-platform capabilities.
Geekbench has updated its workloads to align better with the file types and sizes common in modern computing environments. These changes include using higher-resolution photos in image tests, larger maps in navigation tests, more complex documents in PDF and HTML5 tests, and more and larger files in developer tests.
Geekbench 6 is available to download for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. The app will continue to remain free for personal usage, while the Pro licence will cost $99 (approximately Rs 8,190). Primate Labs is offering a 20% discount on the Pro licence, so it will be available for $79 (approximately Rs 6,540) till February 28.
