According to the latest IDC report, the worldwide shipments for traditional PCs witnessed a decline by 15.3% year over year to 71.3 million units in the second quarter of 2022. The preliminary report also suggests that this was the second consecutive quarter of lower shipments after two years of regular growth.
The report also adds that the decline was worse than expected due to the present lockdowns in China and the persistent macroeconomic headwinds.
“Despite the recent decline and weakening demand, the total PC volume is still comparable to the beginning of the pandemic when volumes reached 74.3 million in the second quarter of 2020 and the market is still well above pre-pandemic levels as volumes in the second quarter of 2018 and 2019 were 62.1 million and 65.1 million units respectively’, adds the report.
The decline also does not bring any change in the position of the top three companies, however, Apple managed to slip to the fifth position.
