Google adds Gmail-like ‘Illustrations’ tool to Contacts app
According to a report by 9to5Google, ‘Illustrations’ can be found next to Google Photos and Device photos. The new tool appears while a user is editing any contact on the app.
The collections – including animals, cities and places, food, hobbies and interests, nature, and sports and recreation – remain unchanged but Google has reportedly added more to each of the subcategories since launch.
After selecting an image, users can edit the picture with a number of tools available in the app. They can find a new “Quick crops” feature that “highlights interesting parts of an image and joins the other color tools that make Google Illustrations quite immersive”, the report added.
Last year in September, Gmail received the ‘Google Illustrations’ tool.
Google ‘Highlights’ feature
Under the search field, users can access a grid of ‘Favorites’ that has four icons in a row, where users get four of their favourite contacts. The Google Contacts Highlight tab is a handy tool as it lets users search for contacts via a grid instead of scrolling. It gives it a visual appearance to the tab with an easy-to-use interface. This enables users to view their contacts in two ways–list and grid.
Users can also easily ‘Add’ new tabs from the top-right corner. The Google Contact app also has the ‘Favorites’ section where users can access the ‘Recents’ tab. It is a two-tab list that starts with ‘View recently’.
While the ‘Added recently’ completes the list and is one of the useful parts of the new user interface (UI). With the addition of these features, Contacts has now become a three-tab application.
