Google announces Fast Pair support for Wear OS devices

Google has revealed that its Fast Pair functionality will now be available on Wear OS devices, as it updated its changelog for the June 2022 Google System Updates. According to a report by Android Police, Google has described that Fast Pair on Wear OS will now allow “previously paired headphones to be discovered and connected to wearables.” Wear OS smartwatch users will now be able to see all the paired Bluetooth earbuds on their Google account due to the Fast Pair support. However, the tech giant has not clarified whether the “proprietary standard” will be included in all Wear OS devices or just the newer ones that run on the latest WearOS 3.
What is Fast Pair
Fast Pair is a proprietary standard developed by Google that helps users in connecting their Bluetooth devices to their phones even more quickly. This technology was first introduced for devices running Android 6.0+ in 2017 and faced a slow industry adoption, mentions the report. However, swift improvements and wider-device compatibility have helped the feature to make a comeback over the last few years.
Fast Pair on Wear OS devices availability
The company has announced that the Google Play services v22.24 update will introduce the Fast Pair feature to Wear OS devices. Google has also mentioned that it has already started rolling out the feature.
How Fast Pair has evolved over the years
Eventually, Google improved Fast Pair by adding some more features that helped users to find their lost wireless earbuds or to check the battery level of connected devices. Moreover, Google announced Fast Pair will be included with Chromebooks, Android TVs and other smart home gadgets for easy pairing at CES 2022.
How will Fast Pair help WearOS devices users?
Fast Pair will help users to sync their smartwatch with their wireless earbuds to listen to music while outdoor or working out and even for calling when the technology arrives for WearOS devices. Apart from that, users will also be able to seamlessly switch between their phone and smartwatch when required only if the earbuds support multipoint like the upcoming Pixel Buds Pro which is also a common feature in the premium audio products available on the market.
How will Fast Pair help the upcoming Google Pixel Watch?
As per the report by 9to5Google, Google Pixel Watch’s product page now mentions Fast Pair compatibility at the company’s official online store. The product page mentions that this feature will make it “a quick and easy to connect your earbuds, watch, and phone with each other.” The report mentions that setting up Google’s upcoming wearable is expected to become much easier when done through the Pixel Watch app.
