Google announces new Android 13 (Go edition): Features, changes and other details – Times of India

Google introduced Android Go in 2017 and now the company has announced the new version of the operating system. Android 13 (Go edition) operating system is aimed towards budget smartphones that arrive with moderate tech specs. The tech giant has also mentioned that over 250 million monthly active devices run Android Go. Google has also suggested the arrival of new Android 13 Go devices in 2023.
Android 13 (Go edition) hardware requirements
The new version of Android Go OS comes with some major changes in the underlying technical functionalities and improvements to the user experience. For example, Google says that the new Android 13 (Go edition) will not compromise the storage availability of a device. However, the company mentioned that at least 2GB of RAM is required for Android Go devices.

Android 13 (Go edition): Features and changes
The latest version of Android Go claims to increase reliability and offer more usability and customisation options for users. Google has added the Material You theme to the new Android 13 (Go edition), allowing users to customise their phone’s colour scheme to coordinate with their wallpaper. Initially, users will be allowed to choose from four complimentary colour schemes.
As per the screenshots shared by Google in the official announcement, the new theme on the lock screen and Quick Settings looks a lot like Pixel phones. Android 13 (Go edition) will also add the Discover feature on budget phones. This feature, just like any other Android phone that offers it, will help users to swipe right from their home screen to find a curated list of articles and other content.
Apart from the new theme, Google has also added some key Android 13 features like Notification Permissions, App Language Preferences and more to the Go edition.

Google Play System Updates support: Importance
Android 13 Go has also added support for Google Play System Updates which will keep the devices updated even without any major Android release.
The inclusion of Google Play System Updates support in Android 13 Go is in line with Project Mainline. Under this project, Google will fix critical bugs as well as security issues at the platform level and roll out these changes directly to the user. In this way, they won’t have to rely on the phone manufacturer to push an update.
