Google announces the winners of its 2022 Google Play awards

TL;DR

  • Google has revealed the winners of its Google Play’s Best of 2022 awards.
  • The winners were picked by Google Play’s editorial team.
  • The apps and games considered for an award are specific to the US.

It’s near the end of the year and that means it’s the start of award season. To bring attention to the many apps and games on its platform, the Google Play editorial team has announced which apps and games it believes were the best of the year.

On the company’s blog, Google revealed the winners of its Google Play’s Best of 2022 awards. While most of the picks were made by the Google Play editorial team, Google did also include a users’ choice section.

The awards cover a range of categories like best overall, best for tablets, top selling, and other categories you would expect to be included. However, Google says it made two new changes to this year’s awards. The list now has an award for Chromebooks and Google has added categories for different genres of games.

For the best overall app, Google picked Dream by Wombo, an AI art app that generates images based on a text description. And for best game, the company picked Apex Legends Mobile, a popular multiplayer game from Respawn Entertainment that has frequently appeared on the top 10 download list.

As for what the users picked, the photo-sharing app BeReal was chosen as the best app. For best game, it looks like users agreed with the Google Play editorial team and nominated Apex Legends Mobile.

Some other notable awards included George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood as the top selling book and “I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jennette McCurdy as best audiobook.

Now that the year is almost over, what were your favorite apps and games from the Google Play store? Do you agree with Google’s picks? Let us know in the comments section down below.
