Google brings new features to older versions of Android with Extension SDK

Google is working on multiple developments for Android users with the latest as well as older versions of the mobile operating system. The tech giant has announced that it is adding new features to smartphones that haven’t had operating system (OS) updates in a long time.
According to The Verge, Google has confirmed a tool known as the “Extension Software Developer Kit” (Extensive SDK) is available to developers. This tool will enable them to use features like Android 13‘s new photo picker in applications that run on some Android 11 and 12 versions.
The company also revealed that the feature “expands the support of certain platform functionality to existing Android versions.”

According to a statement by a Google spokesperson, Scott Westover, “this update also sets the stage for expanding Privacy Sandbox testing on Android.”
Moreover, Privacy Sandbox is being developed by the company to replace its current ad-tracking system, and Android 13 will receive the beta release of the new system. According to the report, Google is working to ensure that users continue to receive new features even if the maker of their smartphone is not releasing software updates.
New audio feature in Android 13
Google is adding a new feature to Android 13 that will let users change the audio output based on the proximity of the device. Users will receive notifications on their smartphones and tablets asking them to authorise the use of the closest output device, such as their phone, speakers, headphones, TV, car, and more.
Users will be able to change the audio output device based on their location once the feature is made available for Android 13 devices. For instance, if you are streaming a podcast or listening to music on your bedroom speaker and you move to a shared space with another speaker.
