Google CEO Sundar Pichai on where Google’s future lies best, owning cryptocurrency and more – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Facebook recently changed its name to ‘Meta’ to represent a future beyond and focus on building metaverse. However, while Google CEO Sundar Pichai is upbeat about the future of virtual reality, he feels that the future of Google still lies in its oldest internet offering — Search.
In an interview to Bloomberg TV’s Emily Chang for Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, Pichai said, “I feel fortunate our mission is timeless. There’s more need to organize information than ever before.” The India-born CEO of Google parent company Alphabet, Pichai also spoke about a range of other things including popularity of cryptocurrency, Google’s plans in China and more.
Recently, the tech giant crossed $2 trillion in market valuation. The company’s sales and profit touched new heights during the pandemic. As for where the next trillion will come from, Pichai said that he sees the company’s core service contributing to this.
As per Pichai, users will start asking more questions using voice and ‘multimodal experiences’.
He adds that embracing this change and evolving Google Search will be the biggest opportunity for the company.
Talking about cryptocurrency, Pichai said that he doesn’t own any, adding that wish he did.“I’ve dabbled in it, you know, in and out,” said Pichai.
