Google Chrome’s new shortcuts make it easier for users to search history, tabs and bookmarks – Times of India
Google is making it easier for users to search for something on its Chrome browser. The company has introduced a new search option for tabs, bookmarks and history right from the address bar. The company has introduced three new “@” shortcuts — @tabs, @bookmarks and @history — for Chrome that let users quickly search a tab, bookmark or history.
Google Chrome “@” search: Details
@tabs: The @tabs feature comes in handy when you are dealing with a large number of tabs. This lets users search for a particular tab in a jiffy. To use this feature, simply type ‘@tabs’ in the address bar and either choose the ‘Search Tabs’ option from the drop-down or press the ‘Tab’ key. As soon as you do that, you’ll see a new ‘Search Tabs’ tag within the address bar.
@bookmarks: The @bookmarks is similar to @tabs, but it is meant to search saved bookmarks. This means if you are looking for a particular bookmark, then instead of going through different bookmark folders, simply type @bookmarks and choose the Search bookmarks option and start typing what you are looking for.
@history: Finding a website from the history, especially when it is combined with mobile browsing history is a cumbersome process. Use the @history shortcut to quickly search the browser’s history.
Feature availability and more
Google has confirmed on its official blog post that the feature is now available to all users running Chrome 108 or newer. If you’ve not updated your Chrome browser, click on three horizontal dots at the top right corner and choose the About Google Chrome option from the Help option. Chrome will automatically run the update checker and update Chrome if the update is available.
Google has added the “@” shortcut on several other apps and services. The company recently added the @ handles on YouTube. While Google Docs already allow users to access several commands, and tags using “@” handle.
