Google Docs gets these new useful features: All the details
View non-printing characters in Docs
Google says that currently when viewing or editing a Google Doc, non-printing characters such as line breaks, section breaks, tabs, and spaces are not visible. “Starting today, you can choose to display non-printing characters in order to see how a document is laid out,” said Google in a blog post.
When turned on, you will see symbols or text to represent Paragraph/Hard break, Line/Soft break, Section break, Page break, Column break, Tab, and Space.
According to Google, this feature provides a visual representation of what controls the formatting in a document, allowing you to make appropriate edits much easier.
To display non-printing characters in a Doc, users can go to View > “Show non-printing characters”.
Improvements to voice features in Docs
Google is also making certain improvements to voice features in Docs. In a blog post, Google said that “these enhancements will help reduce transcription errors and minimise lost audio during transcription.” The improvements also include expanded availability to most major browsers.
The feature will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers as well to users with personal Google Accounts.
Both features have been rolled out starting today. However, it may take close to 15 days for the features to be visible to all users.
