google drive: Google Drive to let you know if it finds a file suspicious – Times of India

Google has released a new Workspace update as part of which it gets the capability to flag suspicious files in Drive and let the account owners know by sending them an email. Any file is going to be flagged if it does not meet Google’s terms of service and its Spam Policy.
The suspicious file will be restricted which means that the creator or the owner of the file will still be able to access it but won’t be able to share it with others. This holds true for existing shared links too. The update is being rolled out and is expected to reach all the users within two weeks.
The files flagged by Google will also carry a flag next to their name, to make them stand out from the others. As for the email, owners can appeal against the decision of Google as marking them as spam. If the file is found to be as shared, across multiple accounts, then the email will be sent to the manager of the storage.“This will help ensure owners of Google Drive items are fully informed about the status of their content, while also helping to ensure that users are protected from abusive content.”, said Google in the blogpost.
As per Google, there is no admin control for this feature. There have been multiple reports in the past about Drive being used to share spam files and pirated content too. With this new update Google Drive will be able to check for suspicious files when they are shared.
