Google Duo: Google Duo will soon get a new home screen UI – Times of India
Google is rolling out an update to the Google Duo app which brings a simpler homescreen. The update was announced by the company via a support forum post and was first spotted by Android Police.
Google says that it will remove the old buttons. It will add a “New Call” button instead.
The button, as Google says in the post, will enable Duo app users to start a call on Google Duo, create a group, see groups and contacts lists and call their “Home” device. The update will roll out to Google Duo app users in the next few weeks.
In the post, Google explains how users can access features that it will remove from the home screen. In order to send a message to a contact, one will have to tap on the contact and then click on the Message button. If they wish to send a message to multiple users, they will need to create a Group first. To create a new group, tap on the New call button and then click on the Create group link.
Contacts and existing Groups will be discoverable via Search or via the “New Call” entry point. One can invite a friend to Google Duo by tapping on “New Call” and searching for a contact either in the search bar or under the contacts list.
With the rising popularity of Google Meet, the company seems to have shifted its focus from the Google Duo. The tech giant has introduced some of the features of the Duo app to Google Meet platform. These include the recently added ability to add call filters and effects. It is rumoured that the Google Duo app may soon be phased out with Meet as Google’s primary video conferencing platform.
