Google ends support for 3D-object creation and library platform Poly – Times of India

Internet search giant Google has today ended support for its 3D-object creation and library platform Poly.
The company had announced that it was going to do this last year in December. “Poly will be shut down on June 30, 2021,” the company said on its support page.
The platform was shut for users for any uploading of 3D models to the site since April 30, 2021.
To recall, the platform was launched in 2017 and enabled users to upload, browse, and distribute 3D content created using tools like Tilt Brush and Blocks.
Earlier this month, Google had announced that it is pulling the plug on its AR-based Measure app. The company has already removed the Android app listing on the Play Store search, and a direct link to the listing shows a new message in the description: “This app is no longer supported and will not be updated. Users who previously installed this app can continue to use it on compatible devices.”
Earlier this year in March, Google discontinued its most affordable VR headset — Google Cardboard. The Cardboard VR headset is no longer available after five years of its first release.
“We are no longer selling Google Cardboard on the Google Store. We will continue to help the community build new experiences through our Cardboard open source project,” a message on the Google Store page said.
