Google, today at its annual “Google for India” event, announced several new additions to its products aimed at bettering how people in India interact with the internet and Google’s products, including search, Android, and more.
Some of the key announcements at the event include a new Multisearch in the Google app, bringing DigiLocker to Android, and fraud detection in Google Pay, among others. Here are all the big announcements Google made at the “Google for India” event today.
Improving visual search
With Multisearch, Google makes visual search more natural so that users can search simultaneously with images and text. The Multisearch will be available to users in India and soon be available in Hindi, and other Indian languages, from next year.
Bringing internet to Indians in their native languages
Internet users in India will now be able to read webpages in their native languages. In collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Google has worked on open-source speech data to power its bilingual search results and will also back language solutions built for India.
Google plans to build a unified model capable of handling more than 100 native languages of India to make the internet a more inclusive experience for users in the country.
Improved speech recognition for ‘Hinglish’ speakers
Google has introduced a new speech recognition model capable of understanding people speaking Hinglish, a blend of English and Hindi. The speech recognition model is based on a neural network that understands accents, context, and the person’s speaking style.
Integrates DigiLocker within Files app on Android
Google has collaborated with the National eGovernance Division, bringing DigiLoker within the Files by Google app on Android. The authenticated files will be stored in a secured folder.

Google Pay will now use deep-learning-based advanced algorithms to detect fraudulent behavior, notifying users in their native language, and may even vibrate to catch users’ attention.

In partnership with Narayana Health, Manipal Hospitals, Medanta, and Shalby Multi-Specialty Hospitals, Google will be offering content covering more than 100 medical ailments in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, and Bengali.
