google: Google brings this Microsoft Edge feature to Chrome browser – Times of India
Google Chrome is set to bring in a new ‘Side search’ panel. Chrome has now enabled an easily accessible way to access the most recent Google search results page embedded in a side panel on the browser.
Currently, while searching with Google in Chrome, users either need to hit the back button to go back to the search results or have to open a new tab for any interesting search result. With the introduction of the side search panel, Google is looking for different ways to make its search engine a more interactive experience.
A newly added button with the Google “G” logo will appear once you have enabled the side search option. When the button is clicked, it opens a panel to the left of the current tab, which shows the Google search results, in a mobile-like design. Upon clicking any of the results in the side panel, the main browser tab will navigate to a newly selected page. All a user has to do is click the new Google icon in the address bar to reveal the search results, irrespective of the web page.
This all might seem a little familiar, as Microsoft Edge has already introduced a similar type of feature last year. The basic functionality of the feature was to look up a word or phrase in the panel on the right side of the current tab showing the relevant web results.
