Google has expanded the @ symbol functionality in its Docs app. The company introduced the feature as a part of mentioning people in Google Docs that allowed users to mention someone from their Google contacts in a document and share it with them.
Now, the @ symbol functionality isn’t just limited to mentioning people, it also brings up a new insertion menu. It’s basically a universal insert menu that gives users the ability to link different things like Meeting notes from the calendar, link to other Google Docs documents, date, calendar events, link spreadsheet, drive files and more.
The new addition appears to be very helpful especially for people who use Google services a lot in their day to day work life. This will not only save time but also cut back on additional tabs, the headache of creating a link from Google Drive just to paste it in the Docs and more along with the ability to mention people in the document.
The feature is now rolling out to Google Workspace, G Suit Basic and G Suit Business users gradually. The full release is expected to happen by November 1. So, it might take some time to reflect on your account.
