google: Google has an important message for these Android users
NEW DELHI: Android smartphone users, Google has important information for you. The company has released an update that reveals that it is withdrawing support for a bunch of its own apps from older and outdated versions of its Android operating system.
This new Google ban is already applicable and many of the users have also started receiving messages that they will not be allowed to use their accounts. The Google list of banned apps includes YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Drive and others.
The tech giant said that all the Android smartphones running Android 2.3.7 or lower will no longer be able to use the Google suite of apps starting September 27, 2021. Android 2.3.7, popularly known as Android Gingerbread was released in September 2011.
The company said that it decided to end support for these apps keeping in mind the safety of its users. “As part of our efforts we have been taking lately to keep our users safe, Google will not allow sign-in on Android devices that run Android 2.3.7 or other lower versions starting from September 27,” Google said in a statement.
“Users may get errors when they try to access Google products and services like Gmail, YouTube and Maps,” added the company.
Google has also asked Android smartphone users to upgrade their smartphones to Android 3.0 or above in order to keep using the app. If the users fail to upgrade the operating system then they will not be able to access these apps on their smartphones.
