google: Google Meet adds ‘immersive backgrounds’ for web users – Times of India

Google Meet has added new immersive backgrounds for web users. The background features subtle animations such as changes in lightning, falling of snow or rain and others that adds life to it. Participants can select the animations to represent their current time zone and climate. Additionally, users will have the option to customise the video with various light and color filters, and more backgrounds. As of now, the feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers.
The new backgrounds and styles can be added before joining a call or during a call using the recently launched effects settings panel. Currently, there are only two options Condo and Cafe with various iterations. The new background joins the already existing six video backgrounds.
This week the company also announced that the platform can now host a meeting with up to 500 participants. As per the announcement, subscribers to the company’s Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Education Plus tiers can now allow up to 500 participants in a single Google Meet call, up from 250 for Enterprise customers.
The rollout of the feature has begun and is expected to be complete by November 19, i.e. Friday. The participant limits for the eligible programs will automatically be enhanced to 500 for all the meetings. For an even bigger meeting, users have the option to live stream which can be watched by up to 100,000 people at once.
The participant limit extension to 500 members is, however, not available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Education Fundamentals, Frontline, Nonprofits, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, or G Suite Basic and Business customers, said Google.
