google: Google Messages to soon get this important ‘WhatsApp feature’, but how it will work differently

Google Messages, the Google’s native app for messaging, is reportedly getting an important ‘WhatsApp feature’ — ability to star messages. However, while the feature has same purpose, it will not work the same way. In fact, some users may find the ‘Star’ functionality more useful in Google Messages.
Google has been adding contextually-aware features to Google Messages for quite some time now. Like segregating users messages from Business to Personal. For the uninitiated, context awareness means the ability of a system or system components of a device to gather information about its environment at any given time and adapt behaviour accordingly. The device uses the software and hardware inside to automatically collect and analyse data to guide user responses.
The upcoming ‘Star’ messages feature will be based on the same technology. According to a report in 9to5Google, “The next contextually-aware feature coming soon to Google Messages spotted in the latest beta update, will offer actions relevant to a particular message.” This means that if Google believes that a particular message is important, a user may see a suggestion to ‘Star it’, making it easier to find later. WhatsApp has a similar functionality that allows users to ‘Star’ Messages. The ‘Starred messages’ feature allows WhatsApp users to bookmark specific messages so that they can quickly refer back to them later.
How will ‘Star messages’ feature work in Google Messages
As per the animation shared in the report, Google Message users will see a ‘Star’ icon appear next to a message when Gooogle thinks that it may be an important message. There will be quick and easy shortcuts to help users sort through and refer back to ‘Starred’ messages. As mentioned above, the feature has been seen in Beta and may take some time to go live.
Another upcoming features is to “schedule in the moment,”. It is not exactly clear so far what will this feature do and how it will work.
