Google has launched the ‘Switch to Android’ iOS app for simpler data transfer from iPhone to Android | Digit

The ‘Switch to Android’ app is Google’s counter against Apple’s Move to iOS app.

Google has a new iOS app named Switch to Android that helps you in moving data from an iPhone to an Android smartphone. You can download it on the Apple App Store and use it to transfer things like photos, videos, contacts, and calendar data from iPhone to Android. Even the media files on the iCloud can be moved to Android. Let’s see how it works based on the information we have with us now.

Download Switch to Android from App Store

The Switch to Android app is available on this App Store link. However, it isn’t something we could find simply by searching in the store. Rather what we did was try opening the link on our iPhone and it automatically opened on the App Store. Download it and open it as any other iOS application.

The listed size of the Switch to Android app on our testing device (ie., iPhone 11) is 29.4 MB.

How to use Switch to Android

Upon opening the app, you will see a welcome screen wherein you have to accept the terms of service and privacy policy of the app. Check it and press the Start button.

Step 1 of the Switch to Android involves you scanning a QR code from the Android version of the app.

Step 2 could include you choosing the data that needs to be moved to the Android device like Contact, Calendar Events, Photos, and Videos. Now, among these, the ones that are saved locally on the iPhone will be transferred first and then you will have the option to send the videos and images on the iCloud.

Switch to Android

From the App Store listing, we learn that the Switch to Android will also ask you to turn off iMessage in order to migrate the SMS messages to the Android phone. The app will guide you with instructions for doing this. Not only that, you will be asked for the permissions required in the transfer process.

Finally, note that the Switch to Android is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch. Both should be running on iOS 12 or later versions.

We will try to come up with a full-fledged how-to guide for this app when it is officially released.
