Google Home app is getting these new features after promised update

Google has started rolling out a redesigned version of its Home app that includes web view support for all its Nest home cameras. Apart from this, the tech giant has also added more options for routines and also has expanded device trigger support for more users. The updated Google Home app will allow users to create new “household” routines that can be seen and edited by other members of a household. This updated Google Home app with a desktop view of Nest cams and “household” routine options is expected to reach all users by next week.

The basic “Home” and “Away” routines are set as “household” routines by default. The household routines are the ones that can be accessed and edited by other members of the household (ones who haven’t created the routine).
However, the custom routines were previously restricted only to the person who has created the routine. With this update, users can also create new routines and can make them accessible and editable by other household members. While setting up a routine, the updated Google Home app will ask users if they want to set up a “Household” or “Personal” routine.

The company has also added some design elements to the Routines page in the app. Google Home’s Routines section comes with a different icon styling and two separate sections for household and personal routines.
Google Home app update: Wider rollout of device triggers
The device trigger feature started appearing on the Google Home app for limited users last week. Now, the latest update has made the feature available for more users which can be created while setting up a new household routine.
Google couldn’t separate this functionality by users as household members are the ones that would likely end up triggering the smart home devices. Moreover, this feature now also supports robot vacuums and other smart home devices that users were unable to control by the “adjust home devices” section of a routine earlier.
Recently, Google discontinued the Nest Secure system. However, the latest device triggers feature also supports the “home” and “away” states of the Nest camera alarm system, reports 9to5Google. This feature allows newer Nest camera models to integrate with the older system.
