Google keeps its ‘promise’, starts rolling out free VPN service to Pixel 7 series – Times of India

Google unveiled its two flagship smartphones–Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro at the ‘Made by Google’ event in October. The event also witnessed the debut of Google’s first-ever Pixel Watch. Alongside the devices, the company had also promised to offer free VPN services to its smartphones launched in 2022 via the Google One app.
What is a VPN
Virtual Private Network– often known as VPN– is a service that prevents users’ internet connection and privacy online. This makes it difficult for the hacker to indulge in users’ personal data and track online location. Through VPN, users can also connect to public Wi-Fi networks.

According to a report by 9to5Google, VPN services are being rolled out early for Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro users. There’s also a support page on Google’s website that lists countries where the VPN services will be available to use:
Austria
Australia
Belgium
Canada
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Japan
Mexico
Netherlands
Norway
South Korea
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Taiwan
United Kingdom
United States
Google says, if users have Google One activated on their phones, it will still work when the user travels to other countries. Alongside the Pixel 7 series users, the VPN services can also be availed by Google One subscribers with 2TB of Google One storage.
Initially, the update was expected to arrive for the Pixel Pro 7 devices with the December Quarterly Pixel Feature expected to release on December 5.
The Google One app on the Pixel 7 series opens with, “Your Pixel comes with VPN by Google One.”
