Google Maps gets this new feature that helps users ‘save fuel’ in select regions: All details – Times of India

Google has expanded its ‘most-fuel efficient route’ feature for Maps to more regions. The company rolled out this feature earlier this year in US, Canada and Germany and now it is expanding it to almost 40 countries in Europe, according to 9to5Google’s report. In addition to that, the company is also rolling out a new feature that allows users to specify their vehicle gas type. As per the report, this will help Google suggest routes even better based on the fuel type the car uses. The feature will be rolled out to US, Canada and Europe in the coming weeks.
What is this new eco-friendly routing feature?
The eco-friendly routing feature, when enabled, suggests to users the most fuel-efficient routes for their set destination given the arrival times are similar. The feature, according to the company, aims to save both money and carbon emissions and give users the best routes as per their vehicle.

Users will see a “Most fuel-efficient” badge
To specify that this particular route is the “most fuel-efficient” Google Maps also shows a leaf badge mentioning the same. The leaf badge also provides more information and other details related to the route in the form of a small explanation.
Can it be disabled
Google Maps allows users to enable or disable the feature as per their will. To enable it, users need to open the Directions page → Route options and enable ‘Prefer most-efficient routes’ toggle.
Just below this option, users will also get the option to specify the fuel type for their car to get even better route suggestions from Google.
When it will arrive in other regions
As of now, Google hasn’t specified when it will roll out the feature to other regions. As the company has just expanded to over 40 countries across Europe, we expect this feature to arrive soon in other regions as well. However, there’s no specific timeline available at the moment.
