Google maps: Google Maps is getting better at tracking you – Times of India

Google Maps is getting the Insights tab as part of the Timeline and will track the modes of your travel on a month-to-month basis. The feature has started rolling out and should reach the users soon if they already haven’t got it.
With Insights, Google has added bar graphs with the help of which users can compare their activities. The latest addition to Maps will help you differentiate the total time you spent on your foot during the month from the other modes of travel. There will be personalised statistics for you to make a better judgement of your movement habits.
The Insights feature will also use Google’s knowledge of the locations you visit (eateries, bars, shops etc.) and will even tell you which day was the busiest in the month. Yes, it is tracking your movement and in a more detailed way from now on. How you feel about the prying nature of Google is up to you. Google began the rollout of the Insights feature with Germany and UK, as per a report by Android Police and the feature should reach other parts of the world soon.
Google has also made some changes to the UI, and that includes less white spaces between entries to fit in more information on the screen and a new floating button to help you make changes to the timeline. A new Trips tab has also been added.
