google maps: Google Maps users in India will soon see toll prices among other new features

Google Maps is all set to get some new features soon. The tech giant has announced some new features coming to Google Maps in select countries, including India. The new features include toll road pricing, new map specifics like traffic lights and stop signs. Along with this, the iOS version of the app also gets a new pinned trip widget and the ability to get driving directions on Google Maps directly from the Apple Watch.
With this latest update, Google Maps users will now be able to see the approximate fares on Google Maps. Soon, you’ll see the estimated toll price to your destination before you start navigating. “When a toll-free route is available, we’ll still show you that route as an option. Like always, you can choose to avoid seeing routes with toll roads completely. Simply tap on the three dots at the top right corner of your directions in Google Maps to see your route options and select ‘Avoid tolls'”, Google said in a blog post.
Users in the US, India, Japan and Indonesia will start seeing the toll prices on Android and iOS this month. The company is also working on expanding this feature to other countries.
Along with this, the tech giant is also offering more detailed maps for better navigation.
The company said that it is adding new details to Google Maps’ navigation experience so you can explore with confidence. You’ll soon see traffic lights and stop signs along your route.
Google also adds that in select cities you will also see more detailed information like the shape and width of a road, including medians and islands. The new navigation map starts rolling out to select countries in the coming weeks on Android, iOS, Android Auto and CarPlay.
The update also brings a new pinned widget to iOS. The new pinned trip widget on iOS enables users to view journeys pinned in their Go Tab directly on their homescreen making it faster to get directions. Users can see the arrival time, the next departure for your transit trip, and even a suggested route if they are driving. Users can also add the ‘Take me home’ app to their Apple Watch and then tap it to begin using Google Maps to navigate home.
Lastly, Google Maps is integrating directly into Spotlight, Siri, and the Shortcuts app on iOS. Once you’ve set up the shortcuts, just say “Hey Siri, get directions” or “Hey Siri, search in Google Maps” to access Google Maps’ helpful information instantly.
