Google may be working on an ‘Android answer’ to Apple’s Find My Network

Google released the latest Play Services update (version 50.22) this month. The tech giant also recently started rolling out the new Play Store update. Both these updates include multiple new improvements including an enhanced ID verification process and Digital Car Key support among other things. The latest Google Play Store and Sevices updates have also hinted that the tech giant is also developing its own Apple’s Find My-like network for Android devices.
According to a report by GizmoChina, Google is likely preparing to launch its own version of Apple’s Find My network and references to the same have been discovered in the new Google Play updates. Google Play’s latest updates mention a “privacy-centric framework” and encrypted last-known-location reports. These references suggest that the company is working on its own Find My Device network for Android devices.
How will Android Apple-like Find My network work
Just like Apple’s Find My network, this network will allow users to track their lost or stolen devices when they are not connected to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and even when they are switched off.

Earlier, in 2021, Google was first rumoured to be working on such a network. However, any other progress about the network was never reported since then.
Other improvements included in the latest Google Play updates
Apart from the hints for Android’s speculated Find My network, the new Google Play update also includes some other improvements. Android devices are getting a new feature which will automatically archive apps when it will be running low on storage.
Moreover, Xiaomi phones will also start supporting the Digital Car Key feature. This feature was previously available only on select Samsung and Pixel devices.
The latest update will also let Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 2 users control their payment cards that are linked to their Google Wallet app directly from their wearables. Google has also started checking the quality of uploaded ID images to improve its ID verification process.
