Google Meet is getting this ‘much-awaited’ feature this month – Times of India

Google has finally added the Emoji Reaction feature to its video conferencing app– Google Meet. The platform will now let users silently drop reactions to others during calls.
Google Meet users can now use emojis to share in-meeting reactions in Google Meet on Web, Meet Hardware devices, and iOS. The company has also said that the feature will be soon available for Android users.

How does Emoji Reaction feature work
These reactions – which users can add – will appear as a small badge floating up the left side of the screen on the sender’s video tile.
Furthermore, there will be a burst of emojis on the left side of the users’ screen, when there are multiple user engagements.
In case users want to share a reaction, they will have to select the smile icon from the control bar to get the reaction bar.
Users can also hover on the reaction bar to select the skin tone of their choice, which will then be applied to all emojis subject to change colour.
“In-meeting reactions provide a lightweight, non-disruptive way to engage and participate in meetings without interrupting the speaker,” the company said.
“We hope these features make it easier for you, your colleagues and stakeholders to stay better connected and engaged, whether they’re working from home, the office, or anywhere in between,” it added.

The feature is available to all Google Workspace users, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business users. Those with personal Google accounts can also use this feature.
How the feature will work for admins and end users
According to Google’s Workspace blog post, for admins, “Reactions will be ON by default and can be turned off in the Admin console”. Whereas for end users (Meeting hosts and Meeting participants), “Reactions will be ON by default and can be turned off by the meeting host. “If enabled by your admin or meeting host, visit the Help Center to learn more about using meeting reactions in Google Meet and on Google Meet Hardware.”
