Google Photos tests new pop-up UI for quick sharing, library management

Google has been releasing major updates and redesigns for its Photos app on Android this year. Initially, the tech giant announced a big update for the “Sharing” section of the app earlier this year and later on rolled out a complete redesign to the “Library” tab (which shouldn’t be confused with the “Photos” tab). However, the company has now decided to change the UI of Google Photos yet again. According to a report by 9to5Google, the app is getting a new and improved pop-up UI “for sharing photos and videos directly from the library.” This new change also seems like a “server-side update” on top of the Google Photos version 5.96, the report suggests.
Availability of the new pop-up UI
The report also mentions that the change was noticed on a few devices so this update might be a “limited rollout or test at this point.” Moreover, the report hasn’t shared much information about how widely this new update has been rolled out but it will probably require the app’s latest version. However, a wider rollout of this update is expected from the company.
How will the new pop-up UI work?
As per the report, this new pop-up UI will appear for users while selecting photos or videos from their Google Photos library. The improved UI is expected to bring all options down to the bottom of the screen, the report claims. The primary options will include — “Share,” “Add to,” and “Delete”, apart from them, the new design will have other ones like — delete content from the device, order prints, move to archive and move to the Locked Folder, the report suggests
Importance of the new pop-up UI
The report states that the update’s ability to integrate more options without actually clicking through to the image will make it very useful. Users will be able to access “direct send shortcuts to specific contacts through the pop-up by swiping further up,” the report claims. Moreover, users will also be offered “a shortcut to add the picture or video to an album and to see its location.” It is important to note that these options will still appear while selecting multiple photos and videos, just like it currently allows.
