Google Pixel 6 Pro strapped to drone for stellar video

TL;DR

  • A drone pilot known as OriginaldoBo strapped a Google Pixel 6 Pro to his drone.
  • The video recorded by the Pixel during its flight is smooth and crisp.
  • The pilot joked that the Pixel could be better at this than a GoPro.

Our review of the Google Pixel 6 Pro is filled with love for the new flagship phone. As with other Pixel smartphones, we loved the camera on the device and felt it captured great video in our tests.

One test we didn’t do, though, was strapping the phone to a drone and flying it around. Thankfully, a drone pilot known as OriginaldoBo on Twitter took care of this dangerous and nerve-racking experiment for us.

In the video below (heed our advice and turn off your speakers), you can see what the Pixel 6 Pro captured.

Note how smooth the video is. Obviously, the drone is doing a lot of stabilizing work for the phone’s camera, but the Pixel 6 Pro is still doing a terrific job at keeping things from getting shaky. Also note the high dynamic range of the video, even when moving at a fast clip. This is all very impressive.

OriginaldoBo also posted a brief clip of how he mounted the Pixel to his drone, which you can see here. He basically just snapped on a smartphone clip and slotted the Pixel into it. He also joked that the Google Pixel 6 Pro might be a better action cam than his GoPro, which is saying quite a lot.

We hope you don’t need to go through the dangerous procedure of snapping your $900 phone to a drone to get good footage. However, if you know the Pixel 6 Pro can do this, it will likely produce good footage in your hands, too.
