Google rolls out Follow feature for better collaboration in Slides – Times of India

Collaboration is a common theme for all of Google’s Workspace apps and services like Docs, Sheets, Slides and more. Now, Google is adding another feature to Slides which will make collaboration easier for users. Called Follow, the feature will allow users to coordinate with others in real time.
In a blog post, Google said that the new functionality builds upon the existing feature to see what slide someone is working on.
How will the feature work?
To use the Follow feature, users can now click on a collaborator’s avatar in the Slides toolbar to jump to whatever slide they are on. They can further continue to move with them as they navigate and make changes to a presentation.
How to enable the feature?
Google has made it clear that there is no admin control for this feature. For end users, the feature will be turned on by default. To follow a collaborator, click their avatar in the Slides toolbar. If you hover over a followed avatar, a “Following” badge will appear. In case you want to so stop following a collaborator, click on their avatar again.
Further, users will also be able to stop following a collaborator in case the collaborator refreshes or leaves the presentation. Also, if you make any edits to the presentation or click a different slide, or even enter the slideshow mode, you will stop following the collaborator.
The Follow feature in Google Slides is available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers. It is also available to users with personal Google Accounts.
The feature was officially rolled out on December 8 but Google has said that it will take between 1-3 days for it to be visible to all users.
