Google rolls out new features for Android phones, TV and more

The holiday season in many parts of the world has officially arrived. Google is rolling out a few new features for Android smartphones, smartwatches and more to capture the festive spirit. Here are some of them:

New Reading mode in Android

Android phones will get a new Reading mode, which creates an accessible reading experience that can be helpful for people who are blind, low vision or dyslexic. “Once installed to your settings, it adds customisable display options — including contrast, font type and size — and a text-to-speech function with speed control,” said Google in a blog post.

Make emojis into a sticker combo

In the blog post, Google said that the Emoji Kitchen also has new emoji which users can mash up into creative sticker combos via Gboard.

New designs in Photos app

Google has collaborated with two artists — Australian husband-and-wife visual duo DABSMYLA and renowned watercolour artist Yao Cheng Design. Users can pick their photos, select the design and rearrange the layout with drag-and-drop controls.

Google Assistant in Adidas Running app

Google says that one can use Google Assistant to jump into more than 30 types of exercises with the adidas Running app. Just say “Hey Google, start a run with adidas Running” and the app will open and start tracking your workout, noting your speed, distance and heart rate via the built-in sensor on your smartwatch.

New tiles in WearOS

Android users who have Wear OS powered watches will see new tiles. They can now get in touch with their favourite contacts and viewing sunrise and sunset times to plan their day.

Cast directly rom Google TV

Starting next week, users will be able to cast directly from the Google TV app to any compatible TV with a single tap. “You can keep browsing other options while you’re watching and use your device as a remote control, too,” said Google in the blog post
