Google says the Pixel 6 series is the fastest selling Pixel line ever

TL;DR

  • Google has confirmed that the Pixel 6 series is the fastest-selling Pixel phone line yet.
  • The company didn’t reveal specific sales figures or the most popular model.

The Google Pixel 6 series is unarguably the company’s best Pixel phone line yet from a specs perspective, while also bringing competitive price tags. It’s no wonder that Google said it achieved record quarterly Pixel sales during Q4 2021 (the same quarter as the phones were released).

In hardware, Pixel 6 is a huge step forward for the Pixel portfolio, and it’s been great to see the response from Pixel users. It’s the fastest-selling Pixel ever, and we are building broad consumer awareness of the brand and making good progress.

“I’m excited about the products we have coming and look forward to sharing more at Google I/O,” Pichai added. Presumably, these upcoming products are the Pixel 6a and the Pixel Watch.

Cause for celebration?

Google didn’t dish out specific sales figures or a breakdown of which phone was more popular. So it’s theoretically possible that the new Pixels only out-sold the previous record-holder by a negligible margin.

This is still a notable achievement for Google and its Pixel line, especially when you consider that the phones didn’t come to the likes of India and that there was an industry-wide chip shortage. It also suggests that the company’s aggressive approach in terms of pricing and specs is bearing fruit.

It hasn’t been plain sailing though, as the Pixel 6 series was inundated with bugs at launch. We’ve seen plenty of system updates to fix these flaws, but it still seems like the phones aren’t as polished as they should be. For what it’s worth, a recent survey of salespeople showed that the Pixel 6 series wasn’t selling well at US carriers. We’re guessing that the aforementioned bugs are to blame for any sales decline, so hopefully Google focuses on delivering polished software.
