Google starts rolling out a new widget design for Android tablets, claims report – Times of India

Google has already started optimising the widgets for Android tablets after recently announcing its plans for mobile devices with larger displays. Last week, the tech giant started rolling out the updated Google Keep widget that has transformed from a sidebar to a bottom bar. However, Google Keep’s new “dual-pane view” for tablets and foldable are still not widely available and is soon expected to reach every user worldwide.
Meanwhile, the company has also reportedly started rolling out the latest circular design for the updated Google Drive widget which is also new for Material You. The new circular widget configuration will be available with version 2.22.357.1 of Google Drive on tablets, reports 9to5Google. However, this new design will not be available for Android phones.

New changes coming with the Google Drive widget update
The company has specified that it is updating the “Drive quick actions” widget with shortcuts that will help users quickly start a new document in — Docs, Sheets, or Slides. These new shortcuts will replace the plus icon in the bar layout that was available at the bottom creation sheet and will join other options that help users to quickly — open Google Drive, search, upload and launch the camera. Moreover, all the shortcut icons will be reportedly arranged in a 3×2 configuration.
Google Drive widget with the new circular design looks similar to a rotating dial that was available on older landline phones. Previously, the unique Material You design was restricted to an x-shaped (or flower petal) dial and the latest circular design is completely new for the theme. Moreover, these widgets with multiple shortcuts can not only be eye-catching but can also turn out to be very important for apps that need several shortcuts.

Google multi-instance support on Android
Apart from the new circular Google Drive widget design, the company is also rolling out a new feature for Android. The multi-instance support feature will allow users to have two windows open side-by-side and will work with Docs, Sheets, and Slides on Android. Google Drive is already updated with a similar feature and is expected to be fully launched for Workspace collaborative tools in the coming days.
