Google starts rolling out Memory and Energy Saver features for Chrome: How the feature work, how to enable and more – Times of India

Google announced new Memory and Energy Saver features in Chrome back in December last year. The new feature was supposed to arrive across the platform including Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebooks. 9to5Google has now reported that the feature is now widely rolling out to all users.
Google Chrome Memory Saver
According to the report, the Memory Saver feature automatically releases resources from tabs that have been inactive for a while now. The additional memory can then be used by the browser for other web pages and tabs. Also, Chrome automatically reloads the tab when a user navigates to an inactive tab.
Chrome will indicate an inactive tab with a speedometer icon that was frozen and is now active again. Clicking on the icon shows a message with how much data was saved when the tab was inactive. Here’s what the notification popup reads, “While this tab was inactive, Memory Saver freed up ‘XMB’ of memory for other tasks.”
Google Chrome Energy Saver
Chrome’s Energy Saver feature is aimed at offering better battery life to laptops. With this feature, Chrome conserves battery power by restricting the background activities and also visual effects. With the feature enabled, Chrome may also reduce video and gaming performance.
Enabling Chrome Memory and Energy Saver features
The new Memory and Energy Saver features can be found within the Settings → Performance section (in the sidebar). Here, users have the option to enable or disable both features.
For Energy Saver, users also get the option to enable when the battery life is at 20% or lower and when the computer is unplugged.
Both Chrome Memory Saver and Energy Saver features are now live and available for users with the latest version of Chrome. In case you still can’t see the feature you can also enable them manually using Flag.
