Google to bring this audio feature in Android 13: What is it, how will it work – Times of India

Google is bringing a new feature to Android 13 that will enable users to switch the audio output based on the proximity to the device. Users will get notifications on their phones/ tablets asking their permission to switch to the nearest output device, including phone, speakers, headphones, TV, car, and more.
“We are developing a way for your audio content to move with you throughout your day. Through notifications on your devices, you’ll be able to tap to start listening to a podcast in the car, continue on your phone and headphones and finish on your TV at home,” Google said in a blog post.

“As you move your physical location, you’ll see these media notifications on your phone or other devices asking if you’d like to transfer the audio over to a nearby device,” the company added, saying that it is working with Spotify and YouTube Music for this purpose.
How will this audio feature work?
Once the feature is available on Android 13, users will be able to switch the audio output device based on their location. For example, if you are listening to music or podcast on your bedroom speaker and you move to a common room that has another speaker.
The phone will get a notification asking whether you want to listen to music on the speaker in the common room. If you agree, the music will start playing in the common room.

Google says that the feature uses the cross-device software development kit (SDK) that it released last year. The technology also utilises Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, and ultra-wideband to detect which audio devices are physically near the user.
Apparently, the technology can switch audio playback from a Bluetooth speaker back to the smartphone if the user answers a call.
Android 13 got a refreshed media player on the phone’s lock screen and notification section that allows users to quickly select which compatible Bluetooth or Chromecast built-in devices to play the content on. This functionality is currently available with YouTube and YouTube Music.
