Google to host an AI event on February 8, may launch ChatGPT rival – Times of India

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has reportedly revealed the company’s plans for launching a ChatGPT rival during its Q4 earnings call. Pichai confirmed that Google has been preparing its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot since early 2022 and has “big plans” for it which are expected to be revealed over the next few months. He also mentioned that Google’s AI will allow users to “interact directly” with its “newest, most powerful language models as a companion to search.” One of the first tools that are expected to be rolled out to the general public will be Google’s AI chatbot LaMDA. This tool has been which has remained restricted to Google’s engineers and beta testers. Now, a new report by The Verge claims that the company has announced a search and AI event. Titled “Google presents: Live from Paris,” is scheduled for February 8. At this event, Google is likely to launch its own AI chatbot that will take on ChatGPT.

As per the report, Google has sent an invite for the AI event. The invitation’s image is also available online. The 40-minute event will be live-streamed on YouTube on February 8 at 8:30 am ET (6:30 pm IST), the report adds.
The event’s description on YouTube states that Google is “reimagining how people search for, explore and interact with information.” The company is planning to make this process “more natural and intuitive than ever before” to find what users need. At this event, Google will discuss “greater access to information for people everywhere, through Search, Maps and beyond”.

Google AI event: What to expect
The report doesn’t specify if Google will launch a new product or service at this event. Rumours suggest that the tech giant may introduce a platform that will compete with the Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s popular artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT.
Another report by NYT claimed that Google’s parent Alphabet has internally issued a “code red” signal after ChatGPT’s launch. The company reportedly considers ChatGPT to be an existential threat to its search business. Meanwhile, a few days ago, CNBC also reported that Google has already started testing multiple new AI tools, including a chatbot named “Apprentice Bard.”
