Google TV could soon take the pain out of setting up streaming apps

Setting up your Google TV device is usually a pretty easy process, as you log into your Google account, install your favorite apps, and sign in to your desired streaming services. However, it turns out that Google could be working on a more seamless process for the latter two options.

9to5Google dug into the latest version of the Google TV Setup app and found references to Google using your list of connected subscriptions to automatically install apps and then sign into them.

The excerpt reads as follows:

Several apps come with your TV and will be installed during setup: %1$s. Additionally, apps for your subscriptions will also be installed.

App info from devices linked to your Google Account will be used to set up and sign in to these apps on your TV.

In other words, it seems like Google might pull these from a connected device (e.g. your phone). This should make for a more seamless setup process on Google TV devices, potentially allowing you to automatically download and sign in to the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, and other streaming services.

Google wouldn’t be the only company offering an easier setup process for apps though. Amazon’s Fire TV platform offers a single sign-on feature allowing you to sign in to your cable account once and then granting you access to a variety of associated standalone apps. Apple and Amazon also offer video channel functionality, offering a more seamless payment and setup process for third-party streaming services on Apple TV and Fire TV devices respectively.
