Google will release one last update for these Pixel smartphones next year – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Google recently rolled out the Android 12 update for its 2018 flagship smartphones — Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL last month. With this update, the smartphones reached its guaranteed update period. Now, Google has confirmed that both the Pixel smartphones will receive their last update next year.
According to a report by 9to5Google, the tech giant has confirmed that both Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will get a final update in Q1, 2022. The last Pixel 3 update is said to bring a slew of bug fixes for Android 12. The smartphones received Material You and Dynamic Colour last month, but missed the other features such as the ones required for the new Google Assistant.
Also, the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3 XL will get “guaranteed” Android version and security updates until May 2022. However, the smartphone is not expected to be eligible for the Android 12L Beta program.
Meanwhile, Google has addressed the screen flickering issue and said that a fix for this will be there in the next update. Some of the Pixel 6 Pro users have also reported that holding the power button partly while the phone is switched off is causing some horizontal light strips to appear all over the 6.7-inch screen.
Google has addressed the “Pixel 6 Pro display residual light” issue as well and has responded on its Help community saying, “Pixel 6 Pro users may notice slight, transient display artifacts when the device is turned off, and when they press on the power button with slight pressure but not enough to turn it on.”
