Google’s first Pixel smartwatch may finally be coming in 2022: Report

Google may finally bring its first smartwatch in 2022. According to a report by Insider, the smartwatch is codenamed Rohan and is being developed by Google’s Pixel hardware group separately from Fitbit. Name of the device is yet not clear, but it may simply be called Pixel Watch.
The upcoming smartwatch is said to serve the same role as the Pixel phones do for Android. It is likely to cost more than the Fitbit watch and is said to directly compete with Apple Watch for that matter.
Coming to the specs expected on Pixel Watch, the smartwatch is rumoured to offer basic fitness tracking features like step counts and heart rate monitor. Google is also said to integrate WearOS 3 on the device. WearOS 3 is the company’s new operating system that currently runs on Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.
The smartwatch is said to feature a round design with ‘no physical bezels’. In its ‘current form’, the device is rumoured to require daily charging. According to an employee who claims to have tested the device itself, the charging on the smartwatch is really slow. Also, the Pixel Watch is said to come with proprietary bands, like Apple Watch.
As per a 2019 report, Google nearly had a “Pixel Watch” in the past. Released in 2017, the LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style were originally supposed to be marketed as part of the Pixel brand. The idea, as per an employee, was axed then because they “didn’t look like what belonged in the Pixel family.”
