Certain videos depicted the erroneous external boundary of India with parts of J&K and Ladakh outside the Indian territory. Such cartographic misrepresentation was found to be detrimental to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.

The government has not disclosed the names of these YouTube channels. On August 1, the government blocked eight YouTube channels. These blocked Indian YouTube channels were observed to be using fake and sensational thumbnails, images of news anchors and logos of certain TV news channels to mislead the viewers to believe that the news was authentic. With this action, since December 2021, the ministry has issued directions for blocking of 102 YouTube channels and several other social media accounts.
