TL;DR

  • A code change has revealed a list of manufacturers that will support a take on Google’s Monet feature.
  • The Android 12 feature lets users extract colors from a wallpaper to be used for key UI elements.

One cool Android 12 feature touted by Google is the ability to extract the main colors from your wallpaper and use it for system interface elements (codenamed ‘Monet’). It’s only available on Pixel phones for now, but a recent discovery has revealed that a variety of other manufacturers are set to implement a similar feature.

Former XDA-Developers editor-in-chief Mishaal Rahman spotted a code change in the Google Material Components Library. This change lists manufacturers who will be supporting the “dynamic color” feature.

Rahman cautions that the colors extracted from wallpapers by these manufacturers will likely differ from Google’s own ‘Monet’ implementation on Pixel phones. In any event, you can find the list of manufacturers mentioned below.

  • Google
  • HMD Global
  • Infinix
  • Itel
  • Lenovo
  • Motorola
  • OnePlus
  • Oppo
  • Realme
  • Roboelectric
  • Sharp
  • Sony
  • TCL
  • Tecno
  • Vivo
  • Xiaomi

There are a few notable names missing from this list, namely Samsung, Honor, and Asus. But as XDA-Developers notes, we hope to see these brands offer a similar Android 12 wallpaper theming option down the line.

This isn’t the only neat Android 12 feature we’re excited about though. The latest Android update also brings the Material You interface, much larger widgets, tweaked notifications, and more. You can check out all the major Android 12 features at the previous link.
