Here’s what to expect from Tensor G2 chip on Pixel 7 series – Times of India
With new phones, we mostly get new chipsets — . and it is time for a new Tensor chip for Google’s Pixel series’ — the Tensor G2. Even though Google has told us the moniker for its second-generation Tensor chip, it has been tight-lipped about what to expect from the next generation. However, early reports spilledspilt some beans, and this new intel tells us in-depth about the upcoming Tensor G2 chip.
The information comes from a Twitter user Kuba Wojciechowski, a developer who dug into the Geekbench results of an alleged Google Pixel 7 Pro. The Tensor G2 would use the same CPU configuration as the former – ARM Cortex X1, A76 and A55 CPU cores in a 2+2+4 configuration, and the developer corroboratescorroborate the same.

The two Cortex-X1 cores will run 50MHz faster, capping the peak clock speed at 2.85GHz, while the two Cortex-A76 cores have gotten a 100MHz bump, running at 2.35GHz, based on Geekbench data. Meanwhile, the cluster of four A55 cores will have a clock speed of 1.80GHz.
The developer suggests that the Tensor G2 would be manufactured on the 4nm process, reportedly Samsung’s, which would bring around 10 per cent improvement in multi-core performance with no substantial difference in the single-core.
As per the developer, minor improvements in the performance are not something to worry about since Geekbench measures peak performance and not sustained performance. So, the Tensor G2 being based on older ARM CPUs could be a plus point since the newer ARM designs have been focusing on delivering the maximum throughput at the cost of increased power consumption and heat.
A new GPU for the Tensor G2 chip
For the graphics unit, the Tensor G2 would feature a newer Mali-G78 MP20 GPU, as seen on the Dimensity 9000+ chipset. The said GPU promises to be 20% faster and 20% more efficient than its predecessor in graphics rendering and 35% faster at machine learning tasks.
The developer says the new GPU would improve Google’s photography chops and gaming performance. The second generation TPU, internally dubbed Jaineiro, may bring minor improvements to AI processing. Also, Tensor G2 could come with a redesigned Exynos-based ISP.
