Here’s why Google is giving free electric scooters to its employees
In partnership with Unagi, Google plans to launch a new “Ride Scoot” program, The Verge reports. The Ride Scoot program is a monthly based subscription where Google’s US-based employees can pay back the total cost of a monthly subscription to Unagi One scooter. The idea is to get employees in Seattle, Irvine, Kirkland, Playa Vista, Sunnyvale, Austin, and New York City to the office without any hassle.
The Unagi One scooter retails at USD 990(approx Rs 75,000). The scooter has a dual motor and is light weighted. It has a top speed of 20 miles per hour (approx 33 km/h) and a range of 15.5 miles (approx 26 km).
Ungi’s CEO David Hyman told The Verge, “they know there’s apprehension amongst employees. People got really accustomed to working from home. And they’re just trying to do everything they can to improve the experience of coming back.”
Unagi also plans to host booths at various locations near Google offices, aiming for a monthly subscription sign-up from employees at a discounted price of USD 44.10(Approx. Rs 3,350) per month and a USD 50 (approx Rs 3,800) sign up cost. Google will reimburse all the charges making it free for the employees.
Google encourages its employees to use the electric scooter for nine commutes per month to take full advantage of the subscription. The demo days for Ungi Model One will take place soon at various Google offices.
