Here’s why Twitter Singapore employees are now working from home

Elon Musk acquired Twitter in late October and soon after acquiring the company, he asked all employees working from home to turn up and start following the “hardcore” working culture in the office. However, things soon went downhill and the company was sued for not paying the rent of its San Francisco headquarter. In what can be dubbed as an extension of the social media company’s office-related problems, Twitter employees in Singapore were walked out of the office building for – guess what – non-payment of rent.
As per Casey Newton, who is a writer at The Platformer, Twitter employees working in the Singapore office, which is the company’s Asia-Pacific headquarters, were walked out of the office over non-payment of rent.

“I’m told Twitter employees were just walked out of its Singapore office — its Asia-Pacific headquarters — over nonpayment of rent. Landlords walked employees out of the building,” Newton said.

Twitter sued for not paying rent of San Francisco office
Last month, a report in The New York Times claimed that Twitter stopped paying rent of the company’s San Francisco office. CBS later reported that the microblogging platform has been sued for allegedly failing to pay the rent for the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco.
Reports say that Twitter had not paid rent of $136,260 (approximately Rs 1.12 crore) and was sued by the landlord of the Hartford Building – Columbia Reit – 650 California LLC. Musk was purportedly trying to renegotiate the terms of the building’s lease.

Twitter’s massive revenue drop
Twitter’s non-payment of rent has been linked to the massive drop in the company’s revenue as several advertisers stopped giving ads to the platform fearing that their ads may flash at inappropriate places.
The conference rooms at Twitter’s San Francisco office were converted into bedrooms for employees to sleep there. BBC cited some former employees of Twitter as saying that Musk has been staying and regularly sleeping in the office since he bought the firm.
