Hero Eddy electric scooter India price, specifications, availability, and everything we know so far

The Hero Eddy was launched in India last month as a low-speed electric scooter squarely aimed at commuters looking for a cheap to run last-mile commuter. The Hero Eddy, however, forms the tail of a fairly numbered portfolio of electric products and also forms a bridge to Hero MotorCorp’s Vida brand that is soon planning to launch a proper Ola S1 Pro, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450X competitor. The Hero Eddy adopts a practical approach to an existing problem and Hero Electric’s green venture plans to eradicate just that. Let’s take a look, at how the Hero Eddy fits in overall.

Hero Eddy price in India, availability

The Hero Eddy was introduced at a price tag of Rs 72,000 (ex-showroom before subsidies) and slots in below major e-scooters in the business. Since this is a low-speed e-scooter, the two-wheeler would not require a registration and is likely to score lower insurance rates thus keeping the actual on-road prices to a bare minimum.

The Hero Eddy low-speed e-scooter is offered in two colourways – Yellow and Light Blue. However, currently, there is no word on its availability. Online bookings too aren’t available at the moment and Hero Electric’s website has a ‘Coming Soon’ indicator for the same.

Range and top speed

The Hero Eddy takes a unique approach to last-mile commuting and sits in a class of low-powered electric scooters. Hero Eddy with its 25kmph top speed doesn’t require a driving licence or vehicle registration to be run streets. The scooter hence serves best as a neighbourhood runabout, a rather perfect vehicle for errands. The claimed range of 85km per charge is in fact up there with many full-sized electric scooters giving the rider enough headroom to write about in and around a locality without any range anxiety.

Battery and charging

The Hero Eddy hosts a 51.2V / 30Ah battery pack that delivers power to its electric motor. The battery pack is capable of churning out 85km of range out of a full charge. A full charge on a household circuit would take 4 to 5 hours according to Hero Electric. An overnight home charging routine should hence work just fine for such kind of a vehicle.

Performance and durability

While the 25kmph top speed from the 250W Brushless DC Motor (BLDC) paired with a 51.2V / 30Ah battery pack doesn’t ooze performance, the compact and lightweight form factor of the Hero Eddy will surely make it a nippy and effective ride across a neighbourhood.

The compact and lightweight scooter brings along a set of 90 section 12-inch alloy wheels to tackle bad roads and improve ride and handling. The wheels upfront is mounted onto a telescopic front suspension and a dual shock rear suspension. The vehicle gets drum brakes on both ends which should be more than sufficient given its low top speed and use case.

Features

The Hero Eddy is decently equipped for the market it aims to cater to and gets – a digital dashboard with MID, Find My Bike feature, Bluetooth based locking system, Follow Me lights, and a Reverse Mode. The Find My Bike feature flashes the horn and lights to quickly help the rider locate the vehicle in a parking lot while the Follow Me lights help out in a dark parking area. The Reverse Mode can help one move out of a tricky situation easily and is surely a good have.
