honeywell: Honeywell commissions first lab in Bengaluru, second outside the US – Times of India

Honeywell has announced the commissioning of a regulatory laboratory for testing fire panels that was assessed by UL, a global safety science leader. The facility is claimed to be first-of-its kind laboratory in the APAC region, and the second for Honeywell outside of the United States. Honeywell Technology Solutions (HTS), the engineering and technology development arm of the company, operates and manages the lab.
Rajeev Bhandari, senior director of building technologies engineering, HTS said, “Fire panels are required to comply to UL 864, the standard for control units and accessories for fire alarm systems. Receiving UL approval of the HTS lab for remote witnessed testing means that UL assessed and qualified the Honeywell laboratory for consistent and competent operation of the laboratory, for UL to use that test data in certification projects. This helps avoid the logistics of shipping and travelling and can help reduce product cycle time from six to nine months to four months.”
To establish this laboratory, HTS’ existing electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility and environmental laboratories were calibrated according to industry standards and engineers received appropriate UL training. The first product to undergo the UL witnessed testing is the ANN-80, a compact, backlit, 80-character LCD fire annunciator that mimics the fire alarm control panel (FACP) display. This will be followed by multiple fire system projects from Honeywell’s Farenhyt, Morley and Gamewell FCI product portfolios.
