Honor has unveiled its first foldable phone–the Magic V– in China. Borrowing some of the design elements from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold devices, the phone will go on open sale in China on January 18. The price of the foldable device starts at ¥9,999 (about $1,569).
The Honor Magic V’s internal display measures 7.9 inches and has a resolution of 2272 x 1984 pixels. It has a 90 Hz refresh rate and an aspect ratio of 10:9. The external OLED display of the phone measures 6.45 inches and has a resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels with higher refresh rate of 120Hz and an aspect ratio of 21:9.
When compared to the internal and external displays of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, both the screens in Honor Magic V are slightly bigger, as the Galaxy device has a 7.6 inch internal display and a 6.2 inch external one.
In folded state, the Magic V smartphone is 72.7mm wide, 14.3mm thick and bears a height of 160.4mm. On the other hand, when unfolded, the device becomes 141.1mm wide and 6.7mm thick.
The Magic V runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the American chipmaker’s most powerful Android chipset yet. The foldable phone comes with 12GB RAM and is offered in two storage options: 256GB and 512GB. This is a 5G device and runs Honor’s Magic UI 6.0 on top of Android 12.
In the camera segment, there is a 50MP triple rear camera setup with a 50MP f/1.9 primary sensor, a 50MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens and a 50MP “spectrum enhanced” sensor. Speaking of the front camera, there are two 42MP camera sensors. The phone is backed by a 4,750mAh battery which supports 66W fast charging.
As of now, the phone is going to launch only in China, with no confirmation from Honor about bringing the device to international markets.
