How Apple and Samsung’s loss has become Xiaomi and Realme’s gain in Russia – Times of India
After years of dominance in the Eurasian region, Chinese smartphone manufacturers are witnessing major growth in Russia within a few months after Apple and Samsung’s exit from the market amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine. As per the experts, Chinese brands will soon constitute 90 percent of the market share.
Realme – owned by China’s BBK Electronics – sold around 1.1 million smartphones in the first half of 2022, whereas it recorded a sales of 4,98,000 units last year during the same period, says the numbers provided by Marvel Distribution. Poco – a spin-off brand from Xiaomi – recorded a 16 percent year-on-year growth, whereas Nokia – whose rights are owned by Finland’s HMD global – also registered a growth of more than 40 percent this year.
Apple and Samsung suffers loss in market share after their exit
Even other Chinese brands, including Vivo, Tecno, Infinix and iTel, are making their presence felt in the market.
Meanwhile, Apple and Samsung are on a downward trend after they pulled out of the market earlier this year. The Cupertino giant registered a 14 percent decrease in the market share while Samsung’s market share fell by 15 percent.
According to a recent report from Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, and Huawei account for 61 percent of the smartphone market share in terms of sales as of May 2022.
However, the Russian smartphone market is not performing as well as last year despite Chinese brands registering some big numbers. Around 10 million smartphones have been sold this year so far, which is said to be 23 percent less than the same period last year.
