How IT minister Chandrasekhar ‘warned’ Zoom CEO Yuan on using wrong map of India – Times of India

The minister of state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar cautioned video calling company Zoom’s founder and chief executive officer Eric Yuan recently. The reason: Yuan had used the wrong map of India on Twitter. The tweet shared by Yuan showed top video calling platforms in each country across the world. The video had a distorted map of India in which the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir was not shown. The tweet drew sharp criticism from Chandrasekhar and several others.
Tagging Yuan, the minister wrote that the CEO needs to be careful of the map he uses. “you may want to make sure u use correct maps of the countries u do/want to do business in @ericsyuan,” Chandrasekhar said in a tweet, quoting the tweet sent out by Zoom CEO Yuan.

How did Zoom CEO react to Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s ‘warning’
Zoom CEO deleted his tweet after Chandrasekhar’s tweet that pointed out the mistake in India’s map. He thanked the IT minister and others for pointing out the error. “I recently took down a tweet that many of you had pointed out had issues with the map. Thank you for the feedback!!” he tweeted. Chandrasekhar replied to Yuan’s tweet with folding hands emoji.

Map troubles
This is, however, not the first time that a company has landed in trouble for using an incorrect map of India. There have been several cases in the past too when several multinationals have used maps that do not correctly depict the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir as well as the Ladakh region.

The wrong depiction of India’s map is a punishable offence. It is liable to fine and jail term in certain circumstances.
